Our Work/Plays
A note on creating a safe space for team members at Copenhagen Industries.
The workplace of my dreams is a space where people thrive. Where they have fun, learn and grow with one another. It is a place where people come together to venture towards a greater future. Where the victories are sweetened, and the failures are softened — because we share them with people we care about.
It is a venue for dreaming, building and creating. For ourselves, each other, and our world. We should take great pride in what we do, and have fun while doing it. When we feel safe and when we have true agency, we have the ability to shatter mountains, break barriers and amount to something greater than the sum of our parts.
But creativity can only truly thrive in the absence of bias, prejudices, and assumptions. Only when our agency as human beings, in and outside of the workplace, is truly recognized and acknowledged, can we participate and engage to the extent we deserve and desire.
While I hope that it will not be needed, and I promise to work tirelessly to ensure that that is the case, I invite and urge anyone who experiences a breach of the trust and sanctity of our space, to come talk to me about it.
But, if it would be more comfortable (or if it relates to the management) our board member, [NAME AND EMAIL REDACTED], has agreed to be our newly designated officer in these matters. Know that [NAME] oversees and supersedes the daily management, and any and all allegations, complaints or charges will be handled in secrecy and with respect and understanding, and in service to all parties, with justice and truth.
Giving this designation to someone who supersedes daily management, hopefully illustrates our commitment to crafting a space where our safety and emotional wellness is of the highest priority.
Balancing a productive environment, with one that is fun, engaging, and safe, tends to often steer far in one direction or the other. That balance is a challenge that rests on all our shoulders, but is my ultimate responsibility.
I am proud to lead a team that expresses great care of one other, enjoys each other, and respects each other’s boundaries to a profound extent.
I ask of you to always be aware of each other’s sensitivities, feelings, and emotional states, to speak up, to listen and to partake in the co-creation of a workplace where work and play go hand-in-hand.
May we have an environment where we can be who we are, in our magnificence and splendor, with all of our flaws and imperfections; free from judgment, free from harassment, and free from threats, both perceived and real.
With love,
Daniel Karpantschof
